Documents Required for Government Job Applications

Almost every government job application in India asks for the same core set of documents. Keeping them ready in the correct format before a notification opens saves you from last-minute rejection when the deadline is near. Use this checklist for any central or state government online application.

Core documents you will always need

• Recent passport-size photograph — usually 20–50 KB, JPEG, with a plain background, taken within the last 3–6 months.
• Scanned signature — signed on white paper with a black or blue pen, 10–20 KB, JPEG.
• Photo ID proof — Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID, Driving Licence or Passport.
• Class 10 (matriculation) certificate — also serves as your date-of-birth proof.
• Class 12 and/or graduation marksheets and certificates — as required by the post.

Documents needed in specific cases

• Category certificate (SC / ST / OBC / EWS) — required to claim reservation, age relaxation or fee concession. Make sure it is in the central-government format if you are applying for a central post.
• PwD (disability) certificate — for candidates applying under the disability quota.
• Experience certificate — for posts that require prior work experience.
• NOC (No Objection Certificate) — if you are already a government employee.

How to keep them application-ready

Scan every document clearly and save both PDF and JPEG copies in one folder on your phone and email. Rename files so they are easy to find (for example, 10th-marksheet.jpg). Keep the photo and signature within the size limits the portal specifies, because oversized uploads are the single most common reason applications fail at the last step. Finally, always read the official notification — a few posts ask for extra proformas or self-declaration forms that must be downloaded, signed and re-uploaded.
